Two held for death of rickshaw-puller

Kolkata: The detective department of Kolkata Police arrested two persons in connection with the murder of a rickshaw-puller at a tea shop at Mukunda Das Pally under Thakurpukur police station on Wednesday morning.

"We have arrested Ashoke Roy and Rabi Das during the course of investigation. The victim, Gautam Ghosh, and the arrested duo were having liquor together, when they started quarrelling. The victim abused them following which the two pushed and then hit him with brick and fled away," said Murlidhar Sharma, Joint Commissioner (Crime), Kolkata Police .

Ghosh's body was found with head injury inside a tea shop and a piece of brick with blood marks on it. Officials from Thakurpukur police station along with sleuths of the anti-homicide wing of detective department immediately started investigation of the case and on the basis of the statement of an eye witness detained the two persons in the evening. After prolonged grilling they admitted their crime.

The arrested duo are residents of Badamtala under Haridevpur police station area, an investigating officer said. The act was triggered in a fit of rage and there was no enmity between the victim and the two arrested persons. They would often come at the tea stall in the evening and will have liquor together, a senior officer of detective department said.
