Two dead, 2 injured in separate road accidents

Kolkata: Chaos broke out in Tollygunge after hundreds of local people staged a protest demonstration following the death of a grandmother and her grandson. They were hit by a private bus near the Tollygunge railway bridge on Friday morning.
The vehicular movements were disrupted as the agitation continued for nearly two hours till senior police officers convinced the protestors to lift the agitation.
The incident took place at around 10 am on DPS Road under Charu Market police station when a class VII student was returning home along with his octogenarian grandmother. The road blockade put up by locals led to traffic congestion in the area on Friday morning.
Police said the duo - Shanti Ghosal and her 10-year-old grandson Pulakesh Naiya were hit by a private bus of route no 40B when it was running at a high speed. They suffered critical injuries and were rushed to M R Bangur Hospital for treatment. According to the doctors, they had multiple injuries on their bodies including legs and heads.
The bus driver tried to flee the spot along with the vehicle. But locals got hold of the accused near Mudiali. Police, however, took the accused driver from the irate mob and later arrested him. They suspect that the accused was racing with another bus to pick extra passengers.
Two helmet less bikers died after they rammed into a roadside lamp post on St Gerogia road near HRBC building on Thursday night. Police said Sk Shahbaz (24) was riding a bike with his friend Rahamat Ali (23) as the pillion. Both were residents of Sudhir Bose road.
The accident took place at around 11 pm when they were riding the bike at a top speed. The bike skidded off the road and rammed into a road side lamp post resulting in serious injuries to both the victims. They were rushed to SSKM Hospital by the police where the doctors pronounced them brought dead.
