TV actor beaten up

Kolkata: Television actor Sayak Chakraborty was beaten up by a miscreant when he went to a market situated near Garia station on Friday evening.

Police have arrested one Gopal Singh for his alleged involvement in the incident. Police said the actor went to the marketplace riding on his scooter. He parked the vehicle by the side of a road. The accused youth came to the spot in a drunken state and ransacked his scooter without any provocation. When the actor protested and wanted to know the reason behind the ransacking, the accused beat him up with a bamboo stick. An auto-rickshaw driver who came to his rescue also received injuries on his nose.

The locals later rushed the injured actor to a nearby hospital. The victim was, however, released from the hospital on late Friday evening. Chakraborty later posted the incident on a social networking site. He alleged that the local police station refused to receive a complaint in this regard initially. The victim was told that the area falls under Sonarpur police station. The cops did not take prompt action, he alleged. A police officer from Sonarpur PS, however, claimed that police personnel rushed to the spot after the matter was reported. The accused has been arrested.
