Trinamool-BJP clash sparks tension at Kalyani

Kolkata: Tension broke out at Kalyani in Nadia late on Saturday night, after a clash took place between the activists of BJP and Trinamool Congress.

A huge contingent of police reached the spot to bring the situation under control. The local Trinamool Congress leaders have alleged that motorcycles belonging to their party supporters were set on fire by the BJP-backed goons.

They further alleged that a party office of Trinamool Congress was also ransacked by the miscreants. The incident was triggered at ward number 1 under Kalyani municipality on Saturday night.

Some supporters from both sides reportedly got injured. The Trinamool Congress leaders also alleged that some miscreants backed by the BJP led an attack on their activists. They went on a rampage and ransacked a party office. Many motorcycles belonging to the TMC supporters, parked on both sides of the road, were set on fire.

The BJP district leaders have, however, denied the allegation and termed the incident as an intra-party clash within Trinamool Congress. They alleged that the TMC leaders were bringing false allegations against them.

Meanwhile, Trinamool Congress leaders have demanded a high level inquiry into the incident and called for arrest of the miscreants who were involved. A police picket has been set up in the area. Police have started a probe into the incident and raids are being conducted to nab the culprits.
