Tribal children get shelter at Balurghat orphanage

Balurghat: Three tribal minor boys of a family, who had no one to look after them, were provided shelter at an orphanage in Balurghat. Kartik (8), Kamala (10) and Ganesh Mardy (11) belong to Banshihari block of the district.

According to an official source, these three boys were rendered orphans after

their grandmother recently died. The father of these boys, who is a migrant labourer couldn't be traced for years and their mother had deserted them a few years ago.

Recently, after being intimated by the concerned block development officer of Banshihari, the minors were rescued by an NGO that works for orphans and minors.

They are now in custody of Shuvayan Home in Balurghat. District child protection unit has already initiated the process of conducting the home study report of them.

On Friday, District Magistrate of South Dinajpur Nikhil Nirmal along with additional district magistrate (LR/SW) Pranab Kumar Ghosh, district nodal officer of Kanyashree and officer in-charge of social welfare Mahadyuti Adhikary and Nimrita Saha visited the orphanage to spend time with the minor boys.

District Magistrate of South Dinajpur Nikhil Nirmal said: "It was a routine visit to check the health condition of these boys. They were in a miserable state after their grandmother passed away. Their parents are also traceless. We have kept them safely in our orphanage."
