Tram driver thrashed near Bata More

A 53-year-old tram driver Javed Nihar was beaten up by an unidentified person near Bata More at Park Street-Mullick Bazar crossing on Thursday evening.
Police said the accused was travelling in an auto-rickshaw that couldn't overtake the tram for a long time. The driver had been honking for a long time to get some space so that it can pass by the tram.

But it was not possible as the road was too narrow. Finally, the driver managed to overtake the tram. But the accused passenger suddenly jumped out of the auto and got on the tram and pulled down the driver and started beating him up.

Local people rushed to the spot and rescued the tram driver. In the meantime, the accused had somehow managed to flee.

The driver was taken to a local health care centre and was later shifted to Calcutta Medical College and Hospital. It led to traffic congestion in the area.

The police initiated a probe in this connection and are trying to identify the person by going through the CCTV footages in the area.
