Trains prevented from collision, Kolkata Station master suspended
Kolkata: Two trains came to a halt within a gap of almost 100 meters head on. This incident happened on Wednesday night around 10:30 pm near Patipukur.
Sources informed that Down Haldibari Superfast Express halted at Patipukur due to a red signal since 9:30 pm. Meanwhile, the Up Jasidih passenger left Kolkata station around 10:25 pm. Sources informed that as some problems related to the signaling system had occurred on Wednesday night. The Jasidih passenger was supposed to avail the third track. But as per the signal, it started moving on the track used for circular rail movement. While advancing towards Dum Dum Junction, the pilot of Down Haldibari Superfast Express noticed a train is coming towards him on the same track. He immediately signaled the pilot of Up Jasidih passenger. Upon receiving the signal, the pilot of Jasidih passenger immediately applied emergency brake and succeeded in stopping the train within a short span as the speed was not high enough. Immediately, railway officials were informed. Almost 35 minutes later the problem got solved. The Jasidih passenger moved backwards and then changed the track. Due to this, the station master of Kolkata station has been suspended. An internal enquiry has been ordered.
