Training centre in Topsia to develop technical and soft skills in youths

Kolkata: In a bid to train students and youths in technical and soft skills, a new vocational training centre will be established in Topsia soon.

"The vocational training institute will have all the modern facilities. The total cost to build the infrastructure will be around Rs 4 crore. We will spend Rs 60 to 70 lakh this year," said state Disaster Management minister Javed Khan.

The sprawling Topsia football ground, locally known as Kustia maidan, will be turned into a building. The ground floor will be empty. In the first floor, there will be community hall.

While the second floor will have vocational training centre and community centre as well, the third floor will have gym and indoor games facility. This apart, the terrace will have swimming pool.

"The infrastructure will be completed within two years. We don't want that our children should go elsewhere for acquitting technical skills," added Khan. The upcoming vocational institute will be the additional fourth such centre imparting technical and soft skills to the youths in the locality.

In Topsia, Saapgachi and G J Khan Road also have training institutes where boys and girls learn computer, Tailoring, Tally. The courses are meant to make them financially independent. "After the completion of the course, we give certificate and give placement to these students who pass out from here. There is a huge demand of students who are learning Tally from out vocational training," the minister said.

Khan reiterated that a new women and children park has been established at G J Khan Road. There is no entry fee.
