Train services towards N Bengal and beyond affected

Kolkata: Train services towards north Bengal and beyond were affected for more than three hours today after a goods train hit a stationary sand laden tractor at an unmanned rail-gate near Muraroi station in West Bengal's Birbhum district.

The collision took place after the tractor was abandoned by the driver on the tracks following a technical snag of the heavy vehicle.
However, there had been no casualty in the accident which blocked the tracks towards Howrah and north Bengal districts and beyond.
Many long distance passenger trains have been detained since the accident occurred today early morning.
The accident happened at unmanned Makua rail-gate between Bansloy and Rajgram of Eastern Railway.
After the accident the locals also staged demonstration demanding erection
of signalling system and gate and monitoring by men.
Services resumed after three hours following removal of the tractor from the tracks.
In another fatal accident a brick-laden truck mowed down a four-year-old girl near a rail-gate at Nalhati early this morning.
