Train mows down two youths in Krishnanagar

Kolkata: Two youths were mowed down by a speeding train while crossing railway tracks at Baruihuda rail gate in Krishnanagar on Tuesday night. The incident occurred two days after two college students were run over while shooting a video on mobile phone on the railway tracks between Dum Dum and Belghoria.
According to police, the victims Ritam Chakraborty (20) and Tanmoy Roy (19) were crossing the tracks near the level-crossing when the accident took place.
Chakraborty was a resident of the Kalinagar area of Krishnanagar while Roy was from the Boubazar area.
Police said both the victims were on their bicycles when they were trying to cross the level-crossing. The rail gate was down, as a result of which the youths slipped under the gate to cross the track.
Despite the alarm raised by other people standing at the rail gate, the victims went underneath the rail gate. They, however, stood for a while as a Sealdah-bound Down train was passing through the area. As soon as the Down train left, they moved forward to cross the other track, without noticing that a Krishnanagar-bound Up train was approaching.
Both the victims were killed on the spot after being hit by the speeding train. After being informed by the local people, railway police rushed to the spot and recovered their bodies, which were later sent for autopsy. The cycles which the victims were riding, were completely destroyed in the accident.
It may be mentioned that in the other incident that took place near Dum Dum, two first year students - Saisab Dolui and Sunil Tanti, were mowed down by a local train when they were shooting a video on a mobile phone on the railway tracks.
