Traffic cop chases down miscreant, recovers stolen gold chain

Kolkata: The police chased down a miscreant for about one kilometre at Parnasree in the southern part of the city and arrested him while he was attempting to flee after snatching a gold chain from a 65-year-old woman on Wednesday morning.
Police said the woman, Gita Saha, was heading towards Behala Market from her house at Arya Samity Road on Wednesday morning when the miscreant approached her from behind and told her that there is a caterpillar on her neck.
As soon as the woman got distracted, he snatched
her gold chain. She realised that her chain was stolen and
found the miscreant running at top speed.
Locals too understood that something had gone wrong when they heard the woman crying for help. A local youth found the miscreant running towards Diamond Harbour Road and he started chasing him. After a chase for around 500 metres, the miscreant was caught by him. But the miscreant threatened him with dire consequences saying that he was carrying a gun. Apprehending that he might open fire, the youth let him go.
But by that time he came under the notice of a traffic sergeant posted at the Diamond Harbour Road Traffic Guard. He chased the miscreant and arrested him. The gold chain was also recovered.
It may be recalled that snatching of gold chains mainly from elderly people when they go out for morning walks was a regular affair a few years ago. The rate of such crimes had gone down.
But now, with this incident at Parnasree, the police are once again trying to find whether any racket has once again become active in the southern fringes of the city. The miscreant will be questioned on whether he is associated with any racket or not.
