Toxic gas suspected culprit behind death of sibling trio in Kidderpore

Kolkata: Tension was triggered in Kidderpore on Friday morning, following the mysterious death of three siblings inside their home. After getting a foul smell, locals informed the relatives of the three siblings and police. Later, police broke the door open and found two decomposed bodies and a woman, who died later in a hospital.

According to sources, since Thursday night people at Karl Marx Sarani in South Post area were getting a foul smell, the intensity of which increased on Friday morning. After enquiring, locals understood that the smell was coming from the house of the Gupta family where three unmarried siblings identified as Triloki Prasad Gupta (59), Bhola Prasad Gupta (56) and Santi Gupta (53) used to stay.

When their neighbours called them and knocked on the door repeatedly, they found no response and soon informed South Port police station.

After a while, police arrived and broke the door open. When they went inside the room, they found that Triloki and Bhola had already died and their bodies had started decomposing, whereas Santi was still alive.

She was rushed to SSKM Hospital, where she died after a while. Though it is unclear how the three of them died, after primary investigation lack of oxygen has been cited as a possible cause.

During search police found a generator from the house and also came to know that a few days ago there was a power cut in the area.

Following the autopsy of the bodies, it was stated that the trio had died between 24

to 40 hours ago due to inhalation of some toxic gas, which

is suspected to be carbon

monoxide.

Experts form State Forensic Science Laboratory (SFSL) subsequently visited the spot and collected samples.
