Tout posing as doctor arrested from CMCH

Kolkata: Police have arrested a person from the Calcutta Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) who was attending patients at the emergency department posing as a doctor.
The junior doctors who were performing their duty at the emergency ward of the hospital found that the accused identified as Manabendra Halder (28) started attending patients at the emergency ward on Monday. This had aroused suspicion of some of the junior doctors who in turn informed the matter to the hospital authorities. A senior official of the hospital informed the matter to the police outpost of the hospital.
A compliant has also been lodged with the Bowbazar police station on the basis of which the cops have started an investigation and later arrested the accused. He is a resident of Ramnagar in South 24 Parganas.
According to the preliminary investigation, police suspect that Halder had been working at the hospital as a tout whose work was to bring patients from the districts. He used to take money from these patients for the health services which they were supposed to get completely free of cost.
Police said that the accused first entered into the Surgery outdoor of the hospital and sat on a chair posing himself as a doctor. When the other doctors of the department asked about his whereabouts, the accused left the department. He then entered into the emergency ward of the hospital at around 3 pm on Monday.
In the face of interrogation, the accused had admitted that he started attending
patients at the emergency ward. He also admitted that he used to work as a tout at the hospital. After receiving a complaint from the hospital authorities, the police have arrested the accused from his native place on Tuesday.
The investigators also suspect that the accused might have done this to win the confidence of some patients whom he had brought from the districts. This is for the first time police have arrested a person entered into a ward of the city's medical college as a doctor without having any fear of being caught.
