Tourists in a tizzy in Digha post 'explosion'

Kolkata: Panic broke out in Digha on Thursday afternoon after a sound of explosion left tourists in an awful state for quite sometime.
This is the second time after August 26 when such a sound has caused panic among tourists and locals. However, the mystery behind the sound remains unexplained. It was around 1.30 pm when people taking bath in the sea and moving around the sea beach heard the loud sound. All the panic-stricken people gathered at one point while some started walking towards their hotels.
It may be recalled that on August 26, there was two back to back similar sort of heavy noises. Unlike Thursday, on August 26 it had happened at around 11 am. Locals said hundreds of people were present on the sea beach. Though the magnitude of the sound was not like that of before, it was quite loud to create panic among people.
Security in and around Digha has been tightened with the recurrence of the similar incident. Additional civic volunteers were pressed into service to make the people feel secure. People who were in the hotels situated near the sea beach also came out on the road and enquired whether any explosion has taken place.
Last time, the police suspected that it could be because of the testing to check the accuracy of missiles from Chandipur in Odisha. The Digha Police and district authorities are trying to ascertain what could be the cause of such a sound. Beach festival in Digha is going to start from December 20 and the administration is taking all the necessary steps to ensure safety and security of the tourists.
