Tour firm 'dupes' people by offering lucrative foreign travel deals

Kolkata: A tour and travel firm has been accused of cheating several people by promising foreign tours. It is assumed that company cheated people of Rs 40 crore.

According to sources, the tours and travel company, having its office on the first floor at 6, Little Russel Street, Kankaria Estate in Park Street allegedly used their company's goodwill to attract people.

It is alleged that the employee and officials of the company used to convince people to book foreign tours and submit a portion of the total amount for the deal.

Recently, a woman identified as Camellia Dutta of Belgharia booked a foreign tour with the company. But, the company did not fulfilled what it promised the customer.

It is alleged that along with Dutta, several others also had given money to the company for the tour. Around Rs 7.50 crore was paid by them for the tour. After she lodged a complaint with the Shakespeare Sarani police station, preliminary investigation revealed that the company had also cheated several more people in the same manner. It is suspected that the amount may reach Rs 40 crore.

It is also alleged that after not fulfilling the promises, when the customers claimed their money back, the tours and travel company did not returned the booking amounts. After the whole scene came to light, an FIR was lodged at the Shakespeare Sarani police station against the promoters, directors, staffs and other responsible persons of the company. However, no one was arrested till Friday night. The Detective Department of Kolkata Police has been asked to take over the investigation of the case.
