TMC worker hacked to death in Malda

Kolkata: A Trinamool worker was allegedly hacked to death by a BJP supporter on Thursday night in Malda. Four persons have been arrested in this connection.

According to sources, the deceased Sanatan Halder was a resident of Pukuria area under the Malda North parliamentary constituency. On Thursday night, a religious programme was underway, where two groups suddenly got involved in an altercation.

At around 12 am, some of the persons allegedly stabbed Halder. Seeing the situation, some other Trinamool workers ran to him. Sensing resistance, the miscreants fled from the spot, leaving Halder lying in a pool of blood. He was rushed to a local health centre where doctors declared him brought dead.

According to police sources, the altercation broke out between Halder and the others on the issue of sound

from the loudspeaker. Halder asked to lower the sound, which was denied by the accused persons.

Later, Trinamool alleged that BJP has been trying to spread terror in the area. A murder case has been initiated on the basis of the complaint lodged by Halder's family members.

"Four persons have been arrested. Till now no political angle could be found. Investigation is going on," said a senior official of Malda District Police.
