TMC party office set ablaze at Taherpur

A party office of Trinamool Congress was set on fire at Taherpur in Nadia in the wee hours of Thursday. Local Trinamool Congress workers raised allegations against BJP workers in the area.

Police said that it was around 2 am when they saw the party office situated close to the Badkulla Station at

Taherpur on fire. Local people rushed out of their houses and initiated the work to douse the flames. Later, a fire tender was pressed into service to extinguish the fire.

Before firefighters managed to douse the flames, the party office had collapsed and it turned the situation worse.

Initially, everyone thought that a Trinamool Congress worker was inside the party office and it led to a panic. Thus, everyone tried to douse the flames to enter the party office and rescue the youth. But the entire structure collapsed before they could have extinguished the fire. Later, people came to know that he had left the place late night.

The local Trinamool Congress leaders alleged that they had found some unknown people loitering around suspiciously in the area and suspect that they could have been behind the plan to burn down the party office.

They had reached the party office from behind and set it on fire. Trinamool Congress demanded a proper probe in this connection and held a protest rally in the area against the incident and demanded arrest of the accused.

A local resident told the police that he had seen two persons leaving the place on a bicycle. It had not been possible for the man to identify them as it was dark. Moreover, both of them had their faces covered with pieces of clothes.

Refuting all allegations, local BJP leaders claimed that they were not at all involved in such activities.
