TMC Panchayat Samity member beaten to death

Kolkata: A Trinamool Congress Panchayat Samity member was allegedly beaten to death by miscreants in Hooghly's Khanakul area on Saturday evening. 56-year-old Monoranjan Patra was surrounded by several miscreants and brutally assaulted with bamboo sticks and rods near his party office at Khanakul's Harish Chowk area at around 8 pm on Saturday, that resulted in his death. He was rushed to Khanakul Rural Hospital where he was declared brought dead. The news led to tension in the area as he was known to be a very popular leader of his party. TMC has alleged BJP's involvement in the incident.

Meanwhile, three TMC workers were allegedly shot dead in Murshidabad district on Saturday. "Three persons were killed when a group of miscreants allegedly fired bullets and hurled bombs at them in Domkal's Kuchiyamora village. The bodies have been sent for autopsy," said an officer from Domkal police station.

"We have heard that they were active TMC workers. Our senior officers are investigating whether there was any political motive behind the killings," he said. Family members of two of the deceased accused BJP-backed miscreants of the murders. "These people are convicts in another murder case. They were after me as I am one of the witnesses. Yesterday, they came here and killed my uncle and nephew after they could not find me in the house," said a relative of the deceased persons.
