TMC offices at Tufanganj ransacked, BJP 'hand' suspected

Kolkata: Many Trinamool Congress party offices at Tufanganj area in Cooch Behar were ransacked by criminals on Monday morning triggering tension among local residents. Many termed the incident as a result of a fall out between the BJP and Trinamool Congress activists.

The district Trinamool Congress leaders have accused the local BJP workers for carrying out the violence.

BJP-backed goons spearheaded the attack on Trinamool Congress party offices which was a desperate move to make their presence felt after being alienated from the people.

The BJP leaders in the district, however, denied the allegations and accused the Trinamool Congress leaders of attacking their workers on Sunday night.

It was learnt from local sources that a clash broke out between the local BJP and TMC leaders on Sunday night.

A gang of armed miscreants attacked various party offices

of Trinamool Congress in the district and damaged them.

They also attacked the houses of some local Trinamool Congress leaders. After being informed a huge contingent of police rushed to the spot to bring the situation under control. A police picket has been set up in the area as tension prevailed among the local residents.

District TMC leaders said that they would register an official complaint with the Election Commission in this regard. The district police have started a probe in this regard. They are also conducting raids to nab the culprits.

It may be mentioned here that a similar incident occurred at Dhupguri area of Jalpaiguri on Sunday morning when a clash broke out between BJP and Trinamool Congress activists.

Two BJP supporters and a Trinamool Congress activist received serious injuries in the incident. They were rushed to a nearby hospital by the local residents.

The district election officers are looking into the matter. The district BJP leaders alleged that some Trinamool Congress backed goons attacked the BJP activists when they took an election rally on Saturday evening.

The Trinamool Congress leaders however denied the allegations saying that their workers have been attacked by the BJP backed goons on Sunday morning.

A chaos broke out at Rabindranagar area in South 24-Parganas on Saturday morning after a banner with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's photograph on it was found torn. The Trinamool Congress activisits put up a block on Santoshpur station road to protest the incident.
