TMC leaders gear up ahead of Panchayat poll

Kolkata: Trinamool Congress leaders on Monday assured party workers that those who do not get tickets for the forthcoming Panchayat election, will be accommodated.
A high-level meeting to fix the party strategy was held on Monday afternoon. Party president Subrata Bakshi, secretary general Partha Chatterjee, Abhishek Banerjee and district party presidents attended the meeting.
The leaders have urged the party workers to ensure victory for all the party candidates. "We will have to see how many thousand candidates the Opposition parties can nominate for the three-tier Panchayat election and on this, will depend in how many seats our party candidates have won uncontested," the leaders maintained.
The leaders asked the workers to highlight the work carried out by the Mamata Banerjee government in rural areas.
"Mamata Banerjee is the only face in the election and the work carried out by her government will have to be highlighted," the leaders said.
They criticised the failure of the erstwhile Left Front government to develop the rural areas. "The CPI-M was in power for over three decades, but they could not carry out rural development. The roads were in bad shape and no drinking water was available. But over the years, the rural scenario has changed," they said.
The leaders said the Opposition parties are not serious about the election. "BJP state president has said the party will go to the court and at one breath, said the party will win the polls," they said.
