TMC leader shot dead in Nimta

Kolkata: A Trinamool Congress leader was reportedly shot dead by two unknown miscreants on Tuesday evening at Patna Thakurtala area in Nimta. The deceased, identified as Nirmal Kundu, was the president of ward number 6 in North Dum Dum Municipality.

According to local residents, Kundu was talking with his neighbours near his house on Tuesday evening. At around 6:30 pm, two bike riders came there and suddenly fired two shots at Kundu. Before anybody could react, the miscreants fled the scene.

Kundu was rushed to a private hospital near Belgharia, where the attending doctor declared him brought dead. Sources informed that Kundu was hit on his head.

Local Trinamool leaders alleged that BJP-backed miscreants have killed Kundu. According to sources, since their victory in Lok Sabha Elections, BJP has been trying to create terror in the area. As Kundu had played an active role during the election, he was allegedly targeted by the saffron party. However, BJP has denied the allegation.

After police from Nimta police station arrived at the spot for investigation, local residents got agitated and demanded immediate arrest of the killers.

Later, the agitation was withdrawn following intervention of Trinamool leaders after getting assurance from the police administration. None has been arrested till Tuesday night.
