TMC councillor shot at in Burdwan, BJP hand suspected

Kolkata: A former Trinamool councillor was shot at on Monday night at Kalabagan area in Burdwan. It was alleged that the accused persons are supporters of the BJP.

According to sources, on Monday night, former councillor Md Selim was returning home from a Trinamool party office on a motorcycle.

Two BJP supporters identified as Krishna Singh and Ajay Singh were following him from the TMC office. Near Kalabagan area, when one of them was about to fire at Selim, some local residents saw them and alerted Selim.

Sensing danger Selim stopped his motorcycle and got down. But till then one of the accused persons had already fired two bullets at Selim. But, as he got down from the motorcycle, both the bullets did not hit Selim.

When local residents started shouting, Krishna and Ajay quickly escaped from the scene. Later, Selim along with other Trinamool leaders went to Burdwan Sadar police station and lodged a complaint against the duo. After initiating a case in this regard, the police went to the homes of the accused to arrest them but the officers found that they were absconding.

The police have also recovered a live bullet from the spot. It is suspected that while fleeing the spot, the bullet was accidentally dropped.

Selim said the BJP is well aware that they would not win the Lok Sabha Elections. Thus they are trying to create an unstable situation to scare the voters as well as the Trinamool supporters and workers.

Till Tuesday night, none of the accused persons could be traced. The police have initiated an extensive search operation to nab the accused persons.
