TMC activist shot at in Mekhliganj

Kolkata: A Trinamool Congress activist of Mekhliganj area of Jalpaiguri was shot at by some miscreants on Thursday.
The victim Laxmi Kanta Sarkar, an active Trinamool Congress activist in the area, was returning home from a Puja pandal when some miscreants stopped him and shot at him from point blank range. Attracted by the sound of gun shots, the local residents rushed to the spot to find the victim lying in a pool of blood. They rushed the victim to a nearby hospital. He was then shifted to the North Bengal Medical College and Hospital as his condition deteriorated. According to the doctors at the North Bengal Medical College and Hospital, condition of the patient is critical and he has been kept under constant monitoring.
Some of the locals, however, alleged that this might have been a result of an intra-party rivalry. The victim had become instrumental for strengthening the party's organization in the area.
A clash had further broke out between the two groups leaving 10-12 people altogether injured from both the sides.
