Three WBSEDCL employees assaulted by locals in Nadia

Kolkata: Three employees, including a station manager of West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (WBSEDCL), were beaten up after they had cut off an illegal electricity connection at Kaligunge in Nadia.

Later, state Power minister Sobhandeb Chattopadhyay instructed the District Magistrate (DM) and Superintendent of Police (SP) of Nadia to take action against the accused persons.

According to sources, on Monday, station manager of Debgram WBSEDCL power station along with four other staff went to Seoratala, Dakshin Para area in Kaligunge on a routine inspection. While they were checking the electricity lines, they found that an electric wire had been attached to a house through hooking.

When they went to the house where the electric wire was connected illegally and questioned the occupants, local residents reportedly surrounded them. When the manager of West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Company Limited told the local residents that he is going to disconnect the illegal electric connection, local residents allegedly started beating up the WBSEDCL employees.

Villagers even confined these three people but two of the WBSEDCL employees somehow managed to escape from the scene.

They informed the police about what happened to them. After almost one-and-a half-hour police officers went to the spot and rescued the other employees.

After state Power minister Sobhandeb Chattopadhyay came to know about the incident on Friday he instructed the DM and SP to identify the culprits and arrest them.

According to West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Company Limited officials, in several places their employees are getting assaulted at the time of routine inspection when they are cutting off illegal electric connections.
