Three mowed down by train while trying to save friend who fell off from train while taking selfies

In a tragic incident, three youth were killed after being hit by a sub-urban train when they were running along the track to save a friend who fell from another train while taking a selfie. The incident took place in between Liluah and Belur Station in Howrah on Thursday night.

Police said after speaking to local people that five friends were standing close to the door while travelling in Up Howrah-Bandel local. They were taking selfies while travelling when accidentally one of the youth fell from the train.

Rest of the four friends got down at the next station and started running along the railway tracks in a bid to save the youth who had fallen down. They, however, didn't notice another sub-urban train, Down Howrah-Goghat local, approaching at a high speed from behind.

Though one had managed to jump out of the track when he realized that the down Howrah-Goghat local was approaching, the rest of the three became nervous and somehow couldn't jump aside. They were hit by the train and were killed at the spot.
Hundreds of people gathered at the spot. Police sent the bodies of the three youth for post-mortem while the youth, who was left injured, was admitted to a local hospital. Meanwhile, till the time this report was filed, cope were trying to ascertain the identity of the victims.

The police, however, came to know from some of the co-passengers that they used to travel in the same train almost everyday. It seems that they were returning home after their work and they could be residents of somewhere in Hooghly.
