Three killed, four injured in 5 separate road accidents

Kolkata: Three persons were killed and four others injured in five separate road accidents in the state since Wednesday night.
The first accident occurred at Garia More area on Wednesday night in which a middle aged-man was crushed to death by a speeding truck.
The incident triggered tension after locals staged a demonstration with the dead body at the accident site. A scuffle also broke out between the locals and police after the latter went there. Police resorted to lathi charge to disperse the mob.
The victim, Rahaman Sardar was trying to cross the road when a speeding truck on its way to Baruipur hit him. Rahaman died on spot. The driver of the vehicle fled the spot along with the vehicle immediately. The locals became infuriated and put up a road blockade with the body. They alleged that loaded trucks ply through the area flouting traffic norms and this often leads to road accidents. There was no proper police vigilance to crack down on the vehicles flouting traffic norms. A huge contingent of police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. In the other accident a 42-year-old man died after being hit by a pickup van on Barakar State Highway in Jhapra More area of Purulia on Thursday morning. Police said the victim Bhuban Choudhury was riding his motorcycle while going to his workplace when the pickup van lost control and hit him. He fell on the road side ditch. The locals rescued the victim and sent him to Purulia Saadar hospital where he was declared brought dead.
The third accident occurred at Shaluni village under Chatna police station in Bankura early. A loaded truck rammed into a road-side house in which one Milan Mandi received fatal injuries. He succumbed to his injuries after being taken to a nearby hospital. An irate mob ransacked the truck following the incident. The driver of the truck fled leaving the vehicle there. Locals alleged that the truck was running at a high speed due to which the driver could not control it. The house was also damaged in the accident. Some police personnel were also heckled when they tried to pacify the angry mob.
Four persons have also been injured in two separate accidents. Three persons identified as Paritsoh Kundu, Ramala Kundu and Biman Pal received injuries when the car there were travelling in lost control and overturned on National Highway 2 near Panagarh. Biman Pal was driving the vehicle when the accident took place. Pal suffered serious injuries in his body. All the injured persons were taken to a private hospital. In the other accident, Prava Sarkar(80) was injured after being hit by a vehicle near karunamoyee crossing on Thursday morning. She was admitted to a nearby private hospital.
