Three injured in TMC-BJP clash, two detained

Three persons were injured in a clash that broke out between BJP and Trinamool Congress at Parui in Birbhum on Tuesday.

The incident triggered tension among the local residents. Local Trinamool Congress leaders claimed that the injured were their party supporters. They said some BJP workers attacked them and also alleged that BJP-backed miscreants hurled bombs on the Trinamool Congress workers. The TMC workers said that they were also shot at.

BJP leaders in the district, however, alleged that some Trinamool Congress affiliated goons attacked their party supporters when the TMC supporters were returning after attending a rally. They alleged that the Trinamool Congress goons attacked them without any provocation.

Three persons who received injuries during the clash were taken to Bolpur sub-divisional hospital. The doctors in the hospital said that the victims had received splinter injuries on their bodies. The villagers from Choumandalpur village said that they heard the sound of exploding bombs during a clash between the two groups. The local people did not step out of their houses in fear. As tension prevailed in the area, a police picket has been set up till normalcy is restored.

Trinamool Congress leaders in the district alleged that BJP workers were trying to weaken their organisation before the panchayat election which is scheduled to take place next year. They also alleged that the BJP-backed goons were targeting some of their leaders who were instrumental in strengthening the party's organisation in the district.

After being informed, the police reached the spot and brought the situation under control. Police have started a detailed probe in this connection so far. Police have also detained two persons for their alleged involvement in creating violence.
