Three including schoolgirl die in separate accidents

Three persons including a schoolgirl were killed in three separate road accidents in the state on Tuesday.

The first accident took place at Sarsuna area of Behala early on Tuesday morning when Tarak Bera, a resident of Behala was crushed under the wheels of speeding truck. The victim was rushed to Vidyasagar Hospital where the doctors declared him brought dead.

The accused driver fled from the spot along with the vehicle immediately after the incident. Police are, however, trying to identify the truck by scanning the CCTV footages. The local residents told the police that the victim was crossing a road at Jelepara area of Sarsuna when a speeding truck lost its control and hit the victim.

After seeing the incident, some of the local residents rushed to the spot and found the victim lying in the pool of blood. The local people also told the police that the truck was loaded with iron rods.

The local residents alleged that accidents often take place in the area due to over-speeding of vehicles. They also demanded stringent action against vehicles that over-speed flouting traffic norms.

In another tragic accident, a 13-year-old girl, who was a student of Class VII, died. The incident triggered tension in Aiho area under Habibpur police station in Malda when irate mob ransacked two private buses. Police said that Kobita Mondal, the victim, was going to attend a private tuition in a nearby area on her bicycle. When she was cycling along the road at Ghoshpara area, a Malda-bound private bus lost control and hit the girl.

A mob went on rampage ransacking vehicles. A huge contingent of police and combat force rushed to the spot to control the situation. The bus driver fled from the spot along with the vehicle immediately after the accident. Meanwhile, the protest led to a huge traffic jam in the area.

In the third incident, a biker was killed after being hit by a car. Police suspect that the victim, a middle-aged man, fell from the bike on the road at Guma in North 24 Parganas when the car lost control and hit the victim. Police are conducting raids to nab the driver.
