Three held for robbery, attempted murder at Diamond Park

Kolkata: Three persons including a woman and a contract killer were arrested on Thursday for allegedly robbing a house at Diamond Park in Haridevpur and trying to kill its two occupants, on Wednesday. The accused woman is a relative of the victims' family.

According to sources, the accused woman identified as Oindrila Roy, used to often visit the house of her uncle identified as Arup Das. Being the relative of the Das family, Roy had good relations with Arup and his daughter Shalmoli Das.

Roy reportedly wanted to settle abroad and needed a huge amount of money. As she was close to the Das family, she knew that Arup kept a huge amount of money at home.

A few days ago, Roy asked Arup to give her Rs 19 lakh, which he refused. After that, Roy thought of robbing him. She discussed the matter with her friend Rupam Samaddar and decided to hire a contract killer.

Samaddar, a law clerk of Alipore Court, managed to hire a person identified as Pavitra Debnath, who was accused of several crimes earlier.

On Wednesday afternoon, Roy, Samaddar and Debnath met at Tollygunge. From there Roy and Debnath went to Arup's house with intention to kill the occupants and rob the house.

After the domestic help opened the door, she asked them to sit and also offered water. Meanwhile, Roy found that Arup was not at home while Shalmoli was taking a bath.

Sitting on the couch Roy and Debnath decided to kill the domestic help before Shalmoli came out of the bathroom. Debnath then went to the kitchen and attacked her with a hammer.

Hearing her scream, Shalmoli rushed out of the bathroom and as soon as she came out, Debnath hit her on the head, making her lose consciousness.

Seeing the domestic help and Shalmoli, Roy and Debnath thought that they had died. The duo then opened the almirah and looted ornaments and cash worth a huge amount. After committing the crime, the duo met with Samaddar.

Following that, Roy and Debnath changed their clothes and dumped the bloodstained garments in a garbage vat.

After regaining consciousness, Shalmoli called up Arup and narrated the incident. Immediately, Arup came back and rushed Shalmoli and the domestic help to a private hospital in Ekbalpore.

On Wednesday night, a case was initiated after police received a complaint from Shalmoli at the hospital and on Thursday, arrested the three accused persons. Rs 1.5 lakh has been found from them.
