Tension at Manicktala ESI hospital after doctors spend time 'chatting'

Kolkata: A chaos broke out at the Manicktala ESI hospital after the patients who came to consult doctors at the Neurological department staged a protest as the doctors were involved in chatting with the medical representatives.
The agitation continued for a while in the medical institution run by the Central government for a long time with the doctors of the department leaving the room where they were supposed to attend the patients.
The incident took place on Thursday afternoon when some patients started demonstrating alleging that the doctors whom they wanted to consult were engaged in chatting with the medical representatives.
Despite knowing the fact that many patients were standing in the queue, the doctors in the Neurological department did not pay attention to the patients.
They continued to chat with the medical representatives inside the department.
After being kept waiting, the patients got infuriated and staged a demonstration inside the hospital. Following the incident, the medical representatives who were chatting with the doctors left the department. The doctors also left the room allegedly refusing to treat the patients.
The patients who came from various areas to consult the doctors became furious as there was no doctor in the department. They staged a demonstration inside the hospital campus prompting the senior officials of the hospital to intervene. A senior official of the hospital rushed to the spot and pacified the agitating patient. The hospital authorities brought some other doctors to the department to attend to the patients.
Some of the patients alleged that many of the doctors in the hospital often spend long time with the medical representatives during the hospital hours as a result of which, the patients are often denied treatment. It was also alleged that the hospital authorities do not take steps against the doctors who do not treat patients.
