Tension at Beliaghata ID hospital after patient's death

Kolkata: Tension prevailed at the Beliaghata ID Hospital here on Saturday after a patient who was admitted to the hospital with fever died in the hospital.
Relatives of the deceased and others gathered in front of the hospital on Saturday morning and alleged negligence in treatment that led to the death of the patient and they also demand action against the doctors who were responsible for her death and alleged gross medical negligence behind the death.
Bebi Ranbangshi (28), a resident of Baguiati area in North 24 Parganas was taken to a local doctor as she had been suffering from fever. The doctor suggested her family members to admit the patient to a hospital. The family members of the victim took her to the Beliaghata ID Hospital on Thursday.
The family members alleged that the doctor under whom the patient was admitted to the hospital on Friday asked the family to take the patient home. She was allegedly discharged from the hospital.
The family members had told the doctor that the patient was still suffering from fever and tremendous abdominal pain. As the family members denied to take the patient home, the doctor had changed the decision and cancelled her leave.
The patient later died on Saturday morning. After this incident, the family members started an agitation and staged a protest in front of the principal's room. They later lodged a complaint with the principal Dr U K Bhadra and demanded that the hospital authorities must come out and say what was the cause of the patient's death.
Dr Bhadra has, however, denied any negligence in the treatment saying that the patient was admitted to the hospital with some infections which had led to her death. The patient did not die of dengue, clarified the officials.
