Teenage couple commits suicide

Kolkata: A teenage couple from East Burdwan committed suicide by throwing themselves in front of a train at Daihata station in Howrah-Katwa section on Saturday night.

Police said that Bapon Ghosh (17) and Shampa Das (16), were in a relationship. They jumped in front of Up Howrah-Katwa local at around 9.30 pm on Saturday. The local residents found the two bodies lying a few metre away from the railway track. The local residents informed the matter to the railway police who recovered the two bodies and sent them for the post-mortem.

According to the police, both the deceased were residents of Radha Krishnapur area of Katwa in East Burdwan. Police came to know that Bapon was a Class XI student of Sudpur High School while Shampa was a Class X student from the same school. They were in a relationship for the last few years. Their family members came to know about the relationship few months ago and trouble broke out. Both of them were under tremendous mental agony as they were asked by their family members to end the relationship. The local residents told the people that despite threats from their family members, the teenagers were committed to their relationship and agreed to continue it. But it turned ugly when the family members of the girl allegedly threatened her saying that she would not be allowed to go to school. This had made the girl frustrated which is why she might have taken this drastic step. When she shared her condition with her boyfriend, the latter also decided to kill himself.
