Teacher sentenced to death for rape, murder of minor
Kolkata: Tamluk District Court on Thursday handed over death penalty to a school teacher in connection with an incident where a minor girl was raped and murdered.
It was in May 2012, the girl was found from the house of Pranab Roy (39) in a critical condition and was
admitted to a hospital.
The accused was a Biology teacher at a school in East Midnapore,
She later succumbed to her injuries.
The teacher had engaged the 13-year-old girl to work as a domestic help at his residence and she used to stay there.
Soon after the girl's death, a complaint was lodged with the police against the school teacher. Pranab was arrested earlier and he was later released on bail.
The victim's father had alleged that his girl used to stay at the house of the teacher where she had fallen victim.
Police had taken all necessary steps to reach the root of the case and to ascertain the exact reason behind the incident.
They completed the probe and submitted the charge sheet before the court in this connection.
The court held him guilty on Wednesday and the quantum of punishment was announced on Thursday.
The court found the teacher guilty under section of 302 (murder) and 376 (rape) of the Indian
Penal Code (IPC).
The counsel of Pranab stated that he would be moving higher court challenging the verdict.
