Teacher found dead at Balurghat school

BALURGHAT: The body school teacher was found hanging from the ceiling on school premises here on Monday afternoon.

The incident took place in Gangarampur's Ramchandrapur SSK School.

The deceased has been identified as Mallika Kundu Mazumdar (55).

She was the resident of Duttapur under Gangarampur police station, police said. Preliminary investigation revealed that the teacher committed suicide.

According to a police source, Mallika had been working as a teacher over the past 20 years.

She used to talk less. On Monday the school closed as usual at 4 pm and everyone left school except her.

She told her colleagues that she had some pending tasks for which she had to stay for about a hour in the school. Around 5 pm, some local people found Mallika hanging from the ceiling of school's office-room.

Police reached the spot and sent the body for post-mortem.The police said the teacher had a son and husband.

One of her colleagues said: "I was shocked to know

about the incident from a local. Her body was found hanging in the office-room of the school. She was a soft-spoken teacher and used to speak very

little. We had never suspected about her intention while leaving school. She informed about her pending tasks and stayed back. Around an hour later, we heard that she committed suicide."

Mallika's husband Tapan Mazumdar said: "There was nothing suspicious about her behaviour. Everything was quite normal. She was introvert. I really don't know what had been going on in her mind."

An investigating officer of Gangarampur police station said: "The police have registered a case of unnatural death and initiated probe. Primary investigation in the case revealed that the teacher had committed suicide. Her body has been sent for autopsy. We would talk to her family members and colleagues to get some clues about her death."
