Taxi operator union joins app cab strike

Kolkata: After the harassment incidents on Monday, city commuters faced more trouble on Tuesday as a taxi operator union went on strike along with the app-cab owners and drivers.

Tuesday was the second day of the strike. But commuter's truoble increased further as a large number of taxi owners and drivers went on strike with almost same demands.

It is alleged that despite some taxi drivers who belonged to another association were providing services but they were stopped by the strike supporters.

On multiple occassions, on Tuesday, taxi drivers were assaulted by strike supporters.

As a large number of cabs and taxis were unavailable, daily commuters had to travel in crowded buses.

Those who availed limited number of taxis plying on roads had to pay almost triple the normal fare.

Travellers who reached Sealdah and Howrah station had also faced problem to

their destinations as no cab or taxis were available.

On Monday, strike supoporters resorted to hooliganism and forced several passengers to deboard the cabs which were plying in the city.

They even broke the mobile phone of the driver. In Sealdah station area, strike supporters forced the app cab drivers to stop their services. They also allegedly blocked the way of a car bearing commercial registration which

was hired by a department of the state government.
