Swapno Bhor to celebrate 2nd birthday today

Kolkata: Swapno Bhor, the state's only senior citizen's park, in New Town will be celebrating its second birth anniversary on Sunday.
After coming to power in 2011, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee urged officials of Housing Infrastructure Development Corporation (HIDCO) to develop a park for senior citizens. The park came up on 3.5 acre of land which the Chief Minister named Swapno Bhor. The whole motto behind the park is to give a message to the senior citizens that they are useful members of society and should never feel isolated.
Swapno Bhor has around 500 members. The park is being used by the morning walkers who do meditation and gather in the evening to take a stroll. On one corner of the park is a pet corner. There is a two storeyed-building housing a library and a coffee corner along with administration offices and a lounge on the ground floor and a auditorium on the first floor.
The members of Swapno Bhor take part in cultural programmes regularly. Functions of release of books are held in the library.
Throughout the year cultural programmes are held where apart from the members, well known artistes take part. Discourses on different topics are organised too. The members are taken out on short trips by HIDCO. The members for the first time organised a pre-Durga Puja exhibition cum sale at Swapno Bhor this year. A book on the activities of Swapno Bhor that had taken place in the past two years was released by Shashi Panja, Minister of State for Women and Child Development and Social Welfare on October 17. A magazine programme will be presented at the celebration on Sunday that includes modern Bengali songs, folk songs and devotional songs.
