Suvendu Adhikari rescues injured accident victim

Kolkata: In a unique gesture, the state Transport minister Suvendu Adhikari rescued an elderly man who was injured in an accident and took him in his convoy so that the victim could be taken to the hospital in minimum time.
The minister admitted the victim to the hospital and asked the hospital authorities to take adequate steps to treat the patient on an emergency basis. It was learnt that the minister's convoy was heading towards Haldia along the Ntaional Highway 41 when Adhikari noticed that an elderly man was lying on the street with some injuries on his body. The minister instructed his security personnel to stop the convoy. After getting down from his vehicle the minister stepped up to the injured victim and asked the on-duty police personnel to take the victim in a pilot van. Security personnel took the injured victim in the pilot van and took him to the Tamluk hospital.
The minister directed the hospital authorities to take prompt action to treat the patient. After making all the necessary arrangements, the minister finally left the hospital. He also instructed the police to arrest the culprit as soon as possible and to take stern action against the driver. Police said that the victim, Shaktipada Kamila, a resident of Mahishadal area was walking along the road when a speeding vehicle hit him. The driver of the vehicle had fled the spot along with the vehicle immediately after the accident. The victim was lying on the side of the road for sometime but no one came to his rescue. Police have started a probe and conducting raids to nab the driver.
According to the hospital sources the patient's condition has been improving gradually. Police have started a probe in this regard and conducting raids to nab the culprit. The local people have been interrogated in this connection.
