Suruchi's theme song, composed by Mamata, launched

Kolkata: The theme song of Suruchi Sangha which has been penned by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was launched on Friday on the day of Mahalaya. Jeet Ganguly has composed the music while Shreya Ghosal has lent her voice.

"Suruchi Sangha is one of the most famous Pujas in the city and every year lakhs of people turn up to have a glimpse of the artwork in the pandal.

"We are hopeful that it will be no exception this year too. Our theme is 'Utsav' (Festival) this year and artist Bhabatosh Sutar is taking care of it along with the décor of our pandal," said Sports and Youth Affairs minister Aroop Biswas who is the president of Suruchi Sangha.

Elaborating on the theme, Bhabatosh Sutar said it is the Durga Puja when all sections of people come together to enjoy the festival irrespective of caste, creed, religion or economic backgrounds.

"The pandal will be shaped like a bonedi house where Durga Puja is being held. In this house, there will be a number of houses of different sizes, some broken or dilapidated suggesting that they are residences of the rich, middle-class and even the poor of society. All these people come together to soak themselves in the festive spirit. At the top, there will be a cloud made of rusted wires acting like the samiyana of the pandal," Sutar said.

The Durga and her entourage is ekchala and the deity is 20 feet high. "People often complain of not being able to see the face of Devi Durga because of the huge crowd. But this time, because of the height it will be visible to all," Sutar added.

The lighting in the pandal will be of special attraction and environment-friendly LED lights have been used.

The video format of the theme song that features actor Nusrat Jahan and Parambrata Chattopadhyay was also unveiled in the presence of Jeet Ganguly and Prosenjit Chatterjee.
