'Surprised why Darjeeling has not been explored yet'

Kurseong: It takes a lot to surprise Rajinikanth, the Superstar who has been, time and again, depicted as a superhuman on celluloid and in the thousands of jokes woven around his alleged super human powers.

However, Rajinikanth has expressed surprise as to why the beautiful locations in the Queen of the Hills haven't been explored in celluloid films yet.

West Bengal Tourism Minister Gautam Deb met the Superstar in Kurseong on Thursday carrying good wishes and a flower bouquet from Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

Rajinikanth is at present in Kurseong to shoot for an untitled Tamil movie directed by Chennai-based filmmaker Karthik Subbaraj. The film is being shot extensively in Kurseong and Darjeeling.

Talking to media persons after the meeting, Rajinikanth stated: "I am surprised that Darjeeling, which is such a beautiful place with such beautiful locations, has not been explored yet. Though through this film, the whole country will know everything about this place and will explore it."

Thalaiva (leader) was all praises for Darjeeling. "This is the land of Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, Swami Vivekananda, Subash Bose and Ravindranath Tagore. I am really happy to meet such lovely people, good and kind-hearted people here. I am here in Kurseong and Darjeeling for the next 30 days to shoot for a film," stated Rajinikanth. The Superstar was happy regarding his film "Kaala." "By God's grace it's doing well throughout the country," stated Rajinikanth.

When confronted with the question on his political plans on the backdrop of Kamal Hasan floating a political outfit, Rajinikanth sidestepped the question saying: "I have come here as an actor."

Even Minister Gautam Deb did not disclose if they had any political discussion. "I don't want to discuss anything political. As an emissary of the Chief Minister, I requested Rajinikanth ji to promote Darjeeling and Dooars as a film shoot destination. I requested him to share his experiences of Darjeeling with others. Our State Government will provide all cooperation for a hassle free shoot," assured the Minister. Before coming to Darjeeling Rajinikanth had called up CM Mamata Banerjee, stated Gautam Deb.

The Minister also stated that the Superstar was truly impressed with Darjeeling. "The director had visited all the Hill Stations and then zeroed in on Darjeeling. I told him that numerous films including Aradhana, Barsaat Ki Ek Raat, Barfi and Jagaa Jasoos have been shot in Darjeeling," stated the Minister.

The Minister also stated that the situation in the Hills is normal and peaceful now. Incidentally, Darjeeling had witnessed a prolonged agitation in June 2017, including a 104-day long bandh.

"The credit for bringing back normalcy goes to the people of the Hills and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee" stated Deb.

Rajinikanth had arrived in Kurseong on June 6. The shoot started in Kurseong from June 7 and will continue till June 15 at Eastern Forest Rangers College. From Kurseong, the superstar will head for Darjeeling, where the film will be shot from June 17 to July 6. The film will then be shot in Kurseong again from July 7 to July 12.
