Supriyo lands in controversy again

Kolkata: Controversy seems to not let go of Babul Supriyo, the outgoing BJP MP from Asansol, who is contesting in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections from the same seat.

A fresh row was triggered on Wednesday after some BJP workers were found sitting in a car with a sticker that read 'On Election Duty'. The car was spotted close to the residence of Supriyo in Asansol and there was a BJP flag on the bonnet of the car.

The incident has led to a political slugfest between BJP and Trinamool Congress leaders in West Burdwan. The district BJP leaders have brought the matter to the notice of the election officials of West Midnapore. The district election officials have started a probe in this regard and have sought information regarding the vehicle.

Local Trinamool Congress leaders alleged that the car was carrying BJP activists and had also taken part in Supriyo's election rally.

It may be mentioned here that Supriyo has been under the scanner of the Election Commission, after he was found playing BJP's controversial theme song. The Election Commission has already sought a report from the District Election Officer (DEO) of West Burdwan in this connection.

Supriyo and other BJP leaders were found playing the controversial song, despite the ban imposed by the office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO). During his election rally on Sunday and Monday, Supriyo had played the song, flouting the guidelines issued by the CEO's office.

Following the instruction of the CEO's office, the DEO of West Midnapore has already taken initiatives to ensure that the song is not played.
