STF to become directorate, to be delinked from Kolkata Police

Kolkata: The Special Task Force (STF), which is an essential wing of Kolkata Police, will be separated soon in order to make it a directorate.

According to sources, as STF deals with Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN) rackets, terrorist organisations and other such criminal activities, it needs to be operated across the state. Also, STF earlier had arrested several Jamaat ul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) terrorists.

It has been decided that from now on STF will not be a part of Kolkata Police. It will be separated and will be made a directorate named as STF, West Bengal, with its office at Ripon Street. An officer in the rank of Inspector General (IG) will head STF West Bengal.

Apart from the IG, two officers in the rank of Deputy Inspector General (DIG) and four officers in the rank of Superintendent of Police (SP) will be there in the STF.

A gazette notification to make STF a separate directorate will be published soon.

During the past few years, STF has conducted several important raids and nabbed huge number of members from terrorist organizations and also keeps track on the FICN racketeer's activity.

It was felt recently that in order to strengthen the STF it must be made a separate body and must work independently.
