STF seizes elements used to prepare IED

Kolkata: Special Task Force (STF) of Kolkata Police has seized various elements that are used to prepare Improvised Explosive Device (IED) from North Dinajpur.

The raid was conducted on Wednesday on the basis of statement of two Jamaat ul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) members who were arrested few days ago.

According to STF officials, after the duo identified as Abdul Bari and Nijamuddin Khan of Itahar in North Dinajpur were arrested on Tuesday morning from Samsi in Malda. After they were remanded to police custody by the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, Calcutta, STF officials started grilling them.

During interrogation, the duo stated that they were trying to flee from Bengal to South India and they were carrying several elements related to preparing of IEDs.

Based on their statements, on Wednesday, STF personnel raided a place at Itahar in North Dinajpur where they used to stay.

During the search, the police found several capacitors, LED bulbs, detonators along with several other objects from Bari's house. From Khan's house, police seized a laptop and a SIM card.

The duo was arrested on the basis of statement given by another JMB member identified as Md. Abul Kashem alias Kashem of Mangalkote in Burdwan on Sunday. During interrogation, Kashem stated that, he was planning to flee from Kolkata after meeting his counterparts.

STF officials came to know from their sources that one of the JMB members was hiding somewhere around Canal East Road under Ultadanga police station's jurisdiction.

Working on source information, STF personnel came to know that Kashem was hiding at a house near Gaznabi bridge on Canal East Road.

Following Kashem was arrested he told the police that two more JMB terrorists hiding in Malda.

Early on Tuesday morning, a team of STF reached Malda and arrested Khan and Bari.

They were reportedly instructed by JMB chief Salauddin Salahein and Ejaz Ahmed, head of JMB in India to reorganise, recruit and conduct trainings for the organisation.

Following the arrest of Ahmed, Bari and Khan were hiding in order to flee from the state in order to stay underground.
