STF nabs three FICN racketeers
Kolkata: The Special Task Force of Kolkata Police has nabbed three Fake Indian Currency Note (FICN) racketeers from AJC Bose Road near Saint James Church on Tuesday afternoon and seized FICN worth Rs 6.5 lakh.
According to police, on Tuesday morning STF sleuths received information that a few racketeers had come to the city to deal with a significant amount of FICN. Sleuths subsequently came to know that the carrier and receiver of FICN will meet near the Saint James Church on AJC Bose Road.
STF personnel were keeping a close watch in and around the area. At around 12:05 pm, two persons were seen waiting for someone. After a while, another person came to the place and they started interacting with each other. While they were busy interacting, the sleuths surrounded them.
When their bags were searched, several fake currency notes were found. The trio was taken to Lalbazar along with the bag, where the money was counted. It was found that the duo identified as Nasiruddin Momin alias Votu and Shahid Shaikh, who came to the spot first, were carrying FICN worth Rs 6.5 lakh in Rs 2,000 denominations. They hail from Kaliachak in Malda.
The third person, identified as Suman Sarkar of Itahar in North Dinajpur, was about to receive the FICN consignment. Later, all three of them were arrested.
In a separate incident, police seized Rs 90 lakh from inside a truck at Englishbazar in Malda on Tuesday night. According to sources, sleuths were conducting searches in vehicles in Englishbazar area since Tuesday evening. At around 11 pm, police stopped a truck for checking, from which the money was found. The driver of the vehicle has been arrested.
