STF nabs 2 drug peddlers, seizes Yaba tablets worth Rs 2 cr

Kolkata: The Special Task Force (STF) of Kolkata Police nabbed two drug peddlers and seized a huge quantity of 'Yaba' tablets from Hastings area on Wednesday afternoon.

According to STF officials, within the past few months several drug peddlers have been nabbed by them. After interrogating them, police came to know that soon a consignment would arrive in the city, which would be smuggled out to Bangladesh.

They soon started obtaining further information regarding the plan of action of the smugglers. On Tuesday night, police were tipped-off about two suspects who would arrive in the city on Wednesday.

Based on the information, STF officials were keeping an eye on the Hastings area along with their source. At around 1:50 pm, the source alerted STF personnel and pointed out two persons at Bakery Road in Hastings.

Immediately, STF personnel intercepted the duo and surrounded them. The bags they were carrying were searched and a huge quantity of 'Yaba' tablets was found.

The duo was subsequently taken to STF police station in Lalbazar, where the packets of 'Yaba' were measured and it was found that they were carrying more than 10 kg of the drug worth approximately

Rs two crore.
