State-wide TMC protest today against BJP's derogatory remarks against CM
Kolkata: The Trinamool Congress will stage a state-wide demonstration on Saturday against the BJP for making derogatory remarks against Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and maligning the party.
Party leaders and workers will demonstrate in the district headquarters between 1 pm and 2 pm.
Protest meetings will be held at Hazra Road, Shyambazar, Gariahat Road, Rashbehari Avenue, Behala near number 14 bus stand, Taratala, Sakher Bazar and Tollygunge. The demonstrators will carry Prime Minister Narendra Modi's effigy, Partha Chatterjee, secretary general of Trinamool Congress said on Monday.
"We have a long tradition of political culture of Bengal. But the language the BJP leaders are using against Mamata Banerjee is uncalled for. They have defaced her pictures. We are against creating any inconvenience to people but some conspirators are trying to malign the Mamata Banerjee government and stall development of Bengal. Our topmost priority is Bengal's development and we thought that it is our duty to protest," he said adding: "The BJP leaders have failed miserably in the plains and they will also be failure in the Hills."
Chatterjee said the Chief Minister had restored peace in the Hills and resumed development work.
During the 104 days of bandh, government properties were set on fire and policemen were attacked. The Cabinet ministers were heckled. But despite that, Banerjee maintained her cool and restored peace in the Hills.
"But their leaders got in touch with a person against whom lookout warrant has been issued. They are flouting the Constitution and laws just because they have government at the Centre."
Chatterjee alleged: "Dilip Ghosh and S S Ahluwallia whose worth are 50 paisa are holding rallies just to create disturbance. They have made derogatory remarks against Mamata Banerjee. We have maintained our cool and are keeping a tab on the situation."
He further alleged that the whole purpose of the leaders to visit the Hills is to create trouble.
They are using language just to instigate people. "When normalcy was being restored in the Hills, then it is really difficult to understand why did the leaders go there. They had gone there just to create trouble and affect the peace procedure."
