The owners of vehicles will have an option to pay taxes, registration fees through debit or credit cards.
This is the first office where this facility has been made available. The entire facility will become operational from January 2.
At the same time, the Transport department is also going to be paperless from January 2 following the direction of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. It may be recalled that the Chief Minister has directed all the departments of the state government to ensure that e-office gets implemented from January 2 itself.
The Behala office will also have direct access to the Automated Driving Testing Track and the Inspection and Certification centre is being set up by the Central Institute of Road Transport (CIRT).
The Centre and state governments both funded the project that has come up in the land adjacent to the fourth unit of the motor vehicle office of the Kolkata Zone.
It may be recalled that a crucial move as part of the state Transport department's road safety measures, the integrated project to ensure automatic vehicle testing and certification facility and the automatic system of driving eligibility test to issue the license was set up.
