State govt to scan financial details before granting land to entrepreneurs

Kolkata: Entrepreneurs or business houses will have to provide all their financial details including loan-related particulars to the state government, before getting land or space to set up business units.

Sources said that the move has been taken to avoid incidents similar to the scam of Nirav Modi and Mehul Choksi's companies.

The state government has prepared a land bank from where entrepreneurs can choose plots to set up their business units. Moreover, space in different industrial estates will also be given to entrepreneurs on long-term leases.

The state government has decided that land and other support to the entrepreneurs will be provided only after going through the documents, which are related to financial aspects of the company or the group. At present, applications for the same need to be sent online and the entrepreneurs will have to provide the financial documents along with the application.

Concerned officials of the state government will go through all the documents, mainly those related to loans taken by any company, before assuring help or allotting land to the company.

The officials will also look into the matter to ascertain whether there is any case of scam in which the company or the group is involved. The officials will give the clearances once they find that the company is not involved with any financial irregularities.

Sources said that there was a discussion in the last cabinet meeting in this connection and final decision in this regard was also taken in the same meeting.

The officials have been directed to go through the documents that the entrepreneurs will provide. An official said that the step will be immensely helpful as it will reduce chances of any scam or cases of cheating in the state.
