State Electricity Board Employees' Union takes up initiative to ensure better services

Kolkata: West Bengal State Electricity Board Employees' Union (WBSEBEU) which is affiliated to the INTTUC, has come up with a unique idea of deploying people who will visit 1.88 crore households across the state, who are the consumers of the West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (WBSEDCL).

WBSEBEU has issued a circular saying that two persons will be engaged who will visit every household availing electricity from WBSEDCL. They will accompany the person who will be visiting the consumers while taking the meter reading from the houses.

The two persons deployed by WBSEBEU will ask the consumers if they have been facing any inconveniences while availing electricity.

If the consumers are found facing any problem related to the electric meter, the matter would be resolved at the spot. If, however, the problem cannot be resolved at the spot, the issue may be taken up with the divisional engineers.

Arijit Dutta, General Secretary of the West Bengal State Electricity Board Employees' Union, said: "Two persons who will be accompanying the meter readers will take stock of various other development schemes run by the Mamata Banerjee government in the state. They will take feedback from the customers to know if they have been facing any difficulties while availing the benefits of various state government-run schemes. Our employees will also fill up a feedback form and deliver them to our officials. The issues would be taken up with our union leaders so that the matter can be addressed."
