State chalks out plan to renovate R Ahmed Dental College & Hospital

Kolkata: The state Health department has chalked out plans of complete renovation of Dr R Ahmed Dental College & Hospital. A four bed ICU will be set up in the hospital on a priority basis and gradually the process of upgradation will commence.
"We have made a preliminary plan for the renovation of the Dental College. Work will be taken up in phases," Director of Medical Education Debasish Bhattacharya said.
Bhattacharya chaired an emergency meeting with top officials of his department and the top brass of the hospital on Wednesday evening.
Other plans discussed in the meeting included plans of commencing emergency department, a state-of-the-art operation theatre.
Plans of increasing the number of indoor beds from 10 to 50 was also deliberated upon.
"There is some space available within the premises of the hospital. We also discussed whether a hostel with accommodation of 400 students can be set up there," a senior official of the hospital said.
Dental surgeries that was being conducted in the hospital came to a halt on the day of Shasthi following the directive of the Supreme Court that a medical establishment without an ICU will not be allowed to conduct surgeries.
A number of patients faced difficulty owing to the certain closure as this institution is the sole dental college in the entire state.
Sources said that till the setting up ICU facilities, surgeries will be conducted at the operation theatre of NRS Medical College & Hospital.
