Spurned lover shoots girl after she rejects marriage proposal

A youth shot her girlfriend at Bongaon in North 24 Parganas on Sunday. The girl was taken to the hospital and she was admitted there in a critical condition.

Police learnt that the girl refused to marry the youth recently. The youth initially did not give any reaction after getting the refusal but later took the step.

But on Sunday, she shot at the girl twice near her residence. The girl was lying in the pool of blood and the accused youth fled from the spot.

The brother of the victim took her to the hospital where she underwent a surgery. According to sources, the doctors did not give any hope to her family members about the girl's recovery.

"The incident took place at Gopalnagar. The accused youth Ranajit Baidya had an affair with a local girl. But the girl recently broke the relationship and refused the proposal of marriage," said a local source.

The investigators suspected that Ranjit had planned this to kill the girl and thus bought a gun from some local criminal. Meanwhile, an investigation was initiated.

In another incident, miscreants killed a youth at Titagarh's Chakkathalia. Shekh Jahangir (28), a local youth was playing carom with his friend on Sunday. Police learnt that somebody called him up at his cell phone. He left the club room where he was playing.

Later his friend heard the sound of bullet firing. They rushed there and saw Jahangir lying on the road in a pool of blood. He was taken to Barrackpore BN Bose Hospital where the doctors declared him brought death.

The investigators learnt that the assailants were four in number who shot him from point blank range and escaped from the spot in motorcycles.
Jahangir's wife lodged a compliant with Titagarh police station and the cops started an investigation.
